Engineering Manager (Golang)

Australia

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of developers whose mission is to help continuously shift our existing infrastructure to international scale. The product you will be working on is indistinguishable from a human for the vast majority of end-users. It has the potential to disrupt the way businesses communicate with their customers and to change the pace of growth for us as a business.

We’re looking for someone as passionate about technology and people as we are. Someone to nurture engineering talent, shape the development future, and be a champion for inclusivity, empathy and diversity which is core to who we are.

Who We Are

Our mission is to make business more human. We are one of the fastest-growing technology companies in Australia and a global messaging provider that enables businesses to build long-term relationships with customers through the power of conversation. We pride ourselves on providing an easy-to-use online messaging platform focusing on SMS marketing, improving CX, AI messaging, advanced SMS API solutions, and developing new mobile messaging innovations. We have offices in Sydney, Manila, and Vancouver.

Opportunities to make an impact

You’ll nurture and grow a talented team of developers, while also setting the patterns for future success across teams. We don’t like silos, so your potential impact upon the growth of the company is unbounded.

Our systems currently service tens of millions of subscribers each month and this role is instrumental in enabling Burst to reach billions. Architecture always evolves, and this role is key to ensuring we get those patterns right as we continue on our journey.

We embrace learning from when things go wrong, and a key focus for you will be ensuring that we develop in ways that embrace learning from data.

We’re a product company, so you’ll be working closely with product management to envision the right technical paths for success, with the team.

Skills, Experience and Qualities

Instead of demanding a certain number of years’ experience and certain degrees like other companies tend to do, we take a slightly different approach – because we don’t think age and education have a causal relationship with your potential for success.

Here is what we value instead:

  • Passion about people and have some experience managing a team of engineers
  • Empathic listening and a drive for enabling others to succeed
  • Engineering excellence and best practice, while bringing the team along on the journey
  • An ability to see the bigger picture and set the strategy for the team
  • Embracing change, learning from failure and an eagerness to continually learn
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Familiarity with agile delivery and development
  • Experience with back-end development, preferably Go, but if not an appetite to pick it up
  • Some SaaS experience (doesn’t matter which platform)

We hire for strengths, not lack of weaknesses – so if you feel like we’re describing you, we want to hear from you no matter your background.

Company Culture

We are curious individuals who believe in five core mindsets:

  • Think with empathy
  • Bring your secret sauce
  • Break stuff until it work
  • Simplify everything
  • Ship it real good

Every person is respected as a valuable contributor no matter their role. We always try to help our clients and each other in the most responsive way possible. We listen to feedback and action good ideas. We embrace new technology and are not afraid to implement change.

And in case you’re wondering what sort of tools we work with, we utilise a modern stack including GSuite, Asana, Confluence, Zoom and many others that enable working from home effortlessly.

Opportunity and Benefits

You will be part of a global team, which has helped Burst SMS become one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the Asia-Pacific. You will be reporting to inclusive managers who use an open-minded agile approach. Your voice will be heard, and you will have the opportunity to grow and make impactful decisions.

You will be working with and alongside the founders of the business, and you will be part of a dynamic and innovative company within a high growth industry.
